Preserving flowers is the process of getting fresh cut flowers and using a unique preservation process that leave the flowers looking natural by maintaining their original shape, brightness. They are a 100% natural and virtually maintenance free.
When you dry your flowers, you are able to preserve them and display the blooms for as long as it must be displayed. Preserved flowers have a general lifespan of 1 to 3 years. However, if it is stored in a sealed box or container they could be for more than 10 years. With the bonus of no watering or caring, during the preservation technique the natural fragrance is lost so with a spray every once in a while you can add a flower scent to the flowers to give them back their wonderful smell.
To help you we have listed 3 ways in which you can preserve your flowers.
A simple way to preserve your wedding bouquet is to let them hang upside down to air dry. Gather up the stems and tie them tightly together with string or twine. Then hang the whole bouquet upside down in a dry, temperate area, away from draught and wind or a warm place like in an airing cupboard or over a radiator. Let all the blooms air dry which will take a 3 or 4 weeks and then they should be completely dried.
Using hairspray is an effective and simple way to preserve flowers. Select fresh, blooming flowers, and tie them to a hanger so they can dry. Place them in a well ventilated, dark room for 2 to 3 weeks. When the flowers are totally dry, spray 3 even coats of hairspray all the flowers. This can extend the lifespan of the dried flowers.
Freeze dried flowers are fresh flowers that have been specially dried to preserve their natural shape and colour. Freeze drying is accomplished by a process called sublimation. It requires a special freeze drying machine. This process, retains the shape and natural colour of the flower.
The process of preserving flowers will be a success depending a lot upon the condition of the flower. Have the petals dropped off? Has the rose turned a dull colour? Is the flower looking a limp? The best time to dry your flowers is when they are in full bloom. So next time you receive or buy a beautiful bouquet of flowers remember you can preserve the blooms to have and enjoy them for many years to come by preserving your flowers so they can stay forever.
